Free Games - 2008

1up.com for the last three years had been compiling a list of free games for 2008 which you can either play online or download. I just thought I'd give it a mention here, because I know sometimes, when you are so bored, you just don't know what to do, so why not play a game to burn those idle minutes? The list has many games from all types of genres. I came upon " LinCity ", a Sim City -like game which was developed for Linux, but is now available for Win32 platforms. Its not bad for a free city simulation game. I certainly recommend it to you to try it. Another one which caught my eye was " Beats of Rage ", a game paying homage to the classis Sega side-scroller beat-em up " Streets of Rage " on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis. Rather than seeing your usual Axel, Blade characters, Beats of Rage features characters from the " King of Fighters " series. I haven't tried this yet, but will give this a spin over the weekend.

Jiveturtle At Wordpress

As you may have noticed, there are a number of Jiveturtle variants available to the right-hand side of this post. Why you may ask? Well, some people prefer to use/read from different blog engines, so I thought, maybe I'll have different versions created to suit the masses demand. I know not many people would read this blog, since, lets face it, its about me and my adventures, and I know I am not the most exciting person in the world or have anything decent to say, but I thought it would be cool to have the same posts/blog on different blog engines. Jiveturtle@WordPress blog was generated a while back, because I wanted to try out different blog engines, and see which one would cater my sporadic needs of ease of posting (like posts via email), photo-uploads, video uploads, tagging and customisation of the blog layout (lets face it, it your own blog, and you always want it to look good). At the time, WordPress was quite basic, with not many features. But on a recent curious visi

Emotions

Feeling sad, angry, frustrated, lost, lonely, vengeful, heartache, un-fulfilled, like a failure, disappointed, jealous, envy, confused, used, cheated, fed-up, regret, depressed, unsure what to do, not respected, crazy, hatred, dead.

Happy Birthday Mum!

Every day since I was born, My mother cared for me. Now that’s a lot of caring, As anyone can see. Please, Lord, protect my mother, And keep her safe from harm, For she is a cherished person, With great wisdom, love and charm. Lord, it’s my mother’s birthday So please, help her to see Just how much she means to us, Her loving family. Wish you good health and good fortune on this special day and forever more! Happy Birthday Mum!

Eggie In The Basket

After watching "V for Vendetta" a number of times on HBO recently, they featured scene where "V" cooked a dish which Stephen Fry 's character called " Egg In The Basket " for Natalie Portman . It looked really nice, so I thought I give it a go. Loved it, and even Amelie, who is often very picky with her food enjoy it too. If you want to know how to cook it, I found this link through Google. Go on, give it a try!

Root Canal Treatment

Just had a root canal procedure done on my tooth last night, talk about pain. Oh I was numb with local anaestetic, but the fact I have to keep my mouth opened for almost an hour none stop was pretty painful. It still hurts a little which is strange, because I thought the nerves endings in the tooth had been taken out, so I am not sure why I still feel pain in my tooth when I chew or eat. Crap. Still got to take out the troublesome wisdom tooth too, but I guess that will have to wait until the root canel job is completed. Remember kids, brush your teeth two times a day!

Pushover

Another Amiga classic, and again another puzzle game which features an ant and many dominoes with different abilities. The original game had a tie-in with Quaver , the cheese-flavoured corn crips (I love them, but we know the bacon and prawn-cocktail flavoured Quavers were the best), which starred the Quavers' mascot Colin Curly. Anyhow, after a little search with Google, I found a PC version (not featuring Quavers and Colin Curly), which can be downloaded from here . It also has a walkthrough in case you get stuck on some levels. Enjoy!

Lemmings

Not sure whether you remember these little green-haired rodents, but I sure do. It was one of the first games I played when I got the Commodore Amiga 600 . I loved it. It was addictive and fun (whether you actually save them or let them perish), either way, it was a joy when I discovered there was an online version of the game written entirely by DHTML. Although it does not contain all the levels, its still a treat to play during those long lunch hours at the desk.

鬼太郎

Nostalgia again...so want to watch this again. Another classic! Apparently the Japanese will be making a live action movie version of this classic anime , hope it turns out good! Opening (80's) Ending (80's)

Amelie - On The Slide

Some old videos I found on the hard-disc drive. This one of Amelie playing at an indoor play area at KFC. At the same time I thought I'd give this video feature on blogger a go. Looks to be OK, but takes ages to upload, and after uploading, you need to wait for the video to be processed. This video is about 34MB, and took about 15-20 minutes. Just hope that you don't have a dodgy internet connection, otherwise, this feature is a pain to fully use.

Soul Calibur 4 - With The Force

Collegue sent me this link regarding the up and coming edition of Soul Calibur. Apparently Namco has agreed a deal with LucasArt and allowed them to create two special characters for the game. Yoda, is expected to make an appearance as a special character on the Xbox 360 version, while Darth Vader is slicing and dicing on the PS3 version of the game. Check out the video at http://www.the-magicbox.com/0801/game080109a.shtml I wonder whether this get a Wii release too? And what special character is install for the Nintendo platform? I remember for Soul Calibur 2, Heichi from Tekken made an appearance on PS2, Spawn for Xbox, and Link (from Zelda) on the GameCude version. Neat ideas, but its a pain. I think they should make all these special characters available on all platforms! Ah well, I guess Namco needs to make the mulahs one way or another... (Screenshot courtesy of 1up.com )

Congrats to Steve Furber!

Just read on the news that Steve Furber, my old hardware lecturer from the Computer Science department at the University of Manchester has been awarded a CBE for his services to the computer science field, most notably, his contribution to created the BBC Micro computer! Gee, I remember the Dare Devil Dennis days on this classroom favourite!
